Cine(ra)ma

An Exhibition

Cinema

(mass noun) /ˈsɪnɪmə/

The production of films as an art or industry[1].

Cinerama: a chronological exhibition about film and its development. Through various video installations, Cinerama tries to explore the changes that film has undergone. Furthermore, it also touches on the purpose of film[2].

Cinerama shows film’s history[3] divided into 4 parts: pixel art and stop motion, the components of 2D videos, modern film, and the futuristic 4D theatre. Through its narration, we see how much film has changed.

What draws Cinerama together is not just its overarching theme of ‘the development of the moving image’, but also its relation to human’s struggles. Since the beginning of time, humans have used theatre to express themselves when it comes to societal problems[4]. Film: the digitalised version of plays, have thus taken over the function of raising society’s issues.

Cinerama is in itself a film with two storylines: of the journey of Man alongside the journey of Film.
